Tracks Dance Company is seeking expressions of interest for its 2014 Choreographic Program

Led by choreographer and dancer Jess Devereux, the program is open to anyone with a desire to develop their understanding and practice of choreography, in a supportive and professional environment. It’s an opportunity to meet dancers, make new friends and explore a variety of processes, working in the beautiful Tracks Dance Studio at Frog’s Hollow Centre for the Arts. It aims to assist participants in uncovering their personal dance style and uniqueness, and to build the culture of dance making and appreciation in Darwin!

Jess is interested in diverse dance practices and making multi art-form projects, solo and collaborative and is particularly interested in dance film, contemporary music, costume, dance theatre and visual art. Jess facilitates workshops that explore all of these things plus improvisation, task orientated movement and writing. The program is all about developing your ideas and finding new moves and new ways! Most importantly, it’s about challenging yourself to find a deeper understanding of process and what goes into making strong dance work.

The fourteen-week program will run February 3 - April 11 then May 5 - June 1 (taking a 3 week break over Easter and school holidays). Two workshops will be run per week, ending in a public showing May 31 – June 1. The Tracks Choreographic Program is free.

Studio Residency at Tracks Dance Company

In response to the ongoing challenge of accessible space for the development of dance practice, Tracks is again offering an opportunity for Northern Territory dance artists to use our dance studio, free of charge, to work on contemporary choreographic development, either through research or development.

Why not make the most of this wet season to work in our air-conditioned studio. Availability will be organised in consultation around Tracks Dance’s scheduled working periods. There is no requirement to complete a work. However, there will be a showing and forum of the artist’s development with a small group of industry peers.

This residency is not for commercial practice, such as classes or for rehearsals for funded projects. Dance artists of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. There is no money attached to this opportunity.

Availability
Tracks Dance Studio has some times available from Nov 25th 2013 until March 26th.

Eligibility
Contemporary dance artists living or working in the Northern Territory pursuing an innovative practice are eligible to apply.

Criteria
Successful artists are chosen on the basis of the quality and innovation of work, and the potential benefits to the applicant and to the broader community. Decisions are ultimately subject to the availability of the studio.

The number of successful applicants will depend on studio availability and time requirements of applicants, as well as:
• Calibre of artist / collaborating artists.
• Clear articulation of concept, rationale and process.
• Benefit of receiving the Studio Residency at this point in the development of a work OR to developing their practice.
• Benefit to the broader community.

Required Information
Proposals should address the applicant’s reasons for wanting to undertake the studio residency and an outline of their project (which may be simply to pursue independent studio practice, or cultural exchange opportunities, etc.)

1. Proposal/outline of project (No more than one page)
2. Preferred starting date and an estimate of studio time needed
3. 1 page CV/bio demonstrating dance activity

The deadline for proposals has been extended to: Friday 29th November 2013
