2018 Development Program

2018 Development Program

Throughout year

Tracks creates multiple pathways to engage more deeply with Territory relevant choreographic research and development processes, in a place where dance is culturally diverse and there is no available Tertiary dance training. It is predominantly studio based choreographic laboratory work, and is a way of ensuring our cultural future by sourcing and supporting new and emerging dance artists. Broad in its reach, diverse in its content, it is a way to revitalise established dance artists and Tracks creative staff.

We take pride in working with local artists and will continue to invest in the development and employment of the local arts industry. We believe in an intelligent, vibrant, and thriving local arts sector and want our Northern Territory dance artists to be able to give voice to our own culture. Through our Development Program we allow local dance artists to explore, dream, cultivate, test, improve, theorise, and deepen both their own and other people’s engagement with the creative dance innovator.

Space Time Studio Residencies

In response to the ongoing challenge of accessible space for the development of dance practice, Tracks annually offers an opportunity for Northern Territory dance artists to use our dance studio, free of charge, to work on contemporary choreographic development, either through research or development. We also host dance artists who have a connection to the company.

Residencies are held from November - March. The 2017/2018 residents were Rochelle Cabury, Aaron Lim, Jordon Bretherton, Jenelle Saunders and Alexandra Jordan. (read more)

Fresh Tracks

Following the success of Fresh Tracks in 2016 and 2017, Tracks Dance Company presented a third series of short dance works in July 2018 created and performed by local choreographers, artists and dancers. Once again, the Fresh Tracks performance was held as part of the Darwin Fringe Festival program, placing emerging and experimental choreographic practice within the wider independent arts community in Darwin. Produced by Kelly Beneforti, it was the performance outcome for this year's inaugural Choreographic Intensive, with a guest performance by the Grey Panthers. (read more)

Make a Dance in a Week

Tracks' annual school holiday program, Make a Dance in a Week 2018, was open to primary, middle and secondary school students. We had 12 particpants who worked under the guidance of Madeleine Brown and Jordan Bretherton, both local dancers and Tracks alumni. (read more)

We3 (When Shall We Three Meet Again?)

A strategic initiative curated by Brown's Mart, Tracks Dance and Corrugated Iron Youth Arts to discover where we have come from, where we are at and where we want to go. The initial planning session’s took place in 2017 between Tracks (Tim Newth & David McMicken), Brown’s Mart (Sean Pardy), Corrugated Iron (Jane Tonkin) and Facilitator - Gillian Harrison. In 2018 artists and arts workers who have worked with the organizations were invited to participate to reflect and dream on for the next 20 years. The three organisations drew together the many conversations, personal stories and future aspirations from these meetings with artists and art workers into a report and presentation.
