2016 Development Program

2016 Development Program

Throughout year

Tracks' Development Program creates multiple pathways to engage more deeply with Territory relevant choreographic research and development processes, in a place where dance is culturally diverse and there is no available Tertiary dance training. It is predominantly studio based choreographic laboratory work, and is a way of ensuring our future by sourcing and supporting new and emerging dance artists. Broad in its reach, diverse in its content, it is a way to revitalise established dance artists and Tracks creative staff.

We take pride in working with local artists and will continue to invest in the development and employment of the local arts industry. We want our Northern Territory dance artists to be able to give voice to our own culture. We believe in an intelligent, vibrant, and thriving local arts sector. Through our Development Program we allow local dance artists to explore, dream, develop, test, improve, theorise, and deepen both their own and other people’s engagement with the creative dance innovator.

Fresh Tracks

An opportunity to show new work as part of the Darwin Fringe Festival.
"That's the difficulty up here [in Darwin], there are not many opportunities [for dance artists] to indulge a little bit in their practice, and give themselves the time and permission to actually do it, which is really valuable." - Lizzi Webb (read more)

Mentorships

To assist in the creation of pathways for artists development, Tracks takes on mentorships of emerging and/or mid-career choreographers/directors.

In 2016 Tracks is mentoring local break dancer Aaron Lim.

Artists such as Bec Reid, Jess Devereux, Kelly Beneforti and Emma Porteus have instigated self-funded mentorships with the company as part of their professional development.
