Youth Dance Leaders 2006

    Around Darwin, and Horsham

    Throughout 2006

With Erwin Fenis employed as our Youth Dance Animateur, and funding from the Ian Potter Foundation, 2006 was a big year for our Youth Dance Leaders. We took on six leaders from Darwin (Erwin Fenis, Kelly Beneforti, Vera Tabuzo, Corina Nichols, Kara-Jayne Handberg, and Imanuel Dado) and two from Lajamanu (Caleb Japanangka Patrick and Gerard Japanangka Scobie).

Once again, we were invited to direct the Australian Youth Dance Festival (AYDF) in Horsham. This marked the first major activity for the newly formed Youth Dance Leaders, a project funded by the Ian Potter Foundation. We took all eight leaders. The Youth Leaders went on to participate in every major Tracks production during the year, featuring in the Festival show, Mr BIG, raising the spirits in A Bowls Club Wedding Return Season. As youth Dance Animateur  Erwin Fenis and Nick Power delivered a residency in the remote community of Lajamanu  training in working in a remote Indigenous community, and ran a series of workshops at Dondale Youth Detention Centre.
