RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Artist in Residence Options

Throughout the year, Tracks Dance Studio is available for artists to bunker down and dig deep into exploring their practice. Residencies are offered if we can accommodate artists' needs within the three types of residencies we offer below. Depending on the type of project an artist is undergoing, Tracks can offer support by hiring the studio at a discounted rate.

Space Time Residency

A creative sanctuary for independent dance and movement artists, offering studio access during the Wet Season (Nov–Feb). Artists immerse themselves in self-directed practice, concluding with a final Sharing. Up to four proposals are selected each year, supporting voices across all styles and genres. Designed for artists working together over an extended period. With regular studio access and no requirement to produce a finished work, these residencies nurture ongoing exploration, skill development, and the realisation of ideas at a sustainable pace. Space Time residents are encouraged to share their findings at the completion of their explorations as a part of their process.

Mentored Residency

An invitational opportunity for local, independent dance and movement artists to work with guidance from a Tracks Animateur. This residency nurtures growth and direction within an artist’s practice and is offered on a case-by-case basis. Mentorship may be adapted in different ways, such as:

  • Artists sourcing funds to support the work in line with the Tracks staff capacity.

  • Alignment between the artist’s identity, values and context with Tracks Dance values, paired with Animateur availability.

  • A relational connection developed through previous involvement with Tracks.

Artists are encouraged to reach out and discuss possibilities for mentorship. In some cases, this type of residency can be offered in exchange for the artist giving back to the community, such as through a workshop, masterclass, talk, or shared showing. These residencies recognise and amplify the value of collaboration and knowledge exchange.
