Alana James
Alana is a strategic and compassionate not-for-profit leader with more than a decade’s experience in the community sector.
She moved to the Territory almost 8 years ago for a short-term contract, and in typical Darwin fashion, never left. Since then, she’s worn a number of hats at the Y Northern Territory, as the Executive Manager of Youth and Community Services, People and Culture Manager, and, most recently, leading the Marketing and Communications portfolio.
Alana has a double Bachelor in International Relations and Journalism and is a graduate of the South Australian Governor’s Leadership Foundation program. She believes deeply in the power of words and is also endlessly fascinated by the non-verbal ways we communicate, through movement, dance, self-expression, and body language.
Alana loves working with passionate people and oddly enjoys the intersection between creativity and bureaucracy, where supportive structures and systems can make a real impact.
Alana grew up dancing, has performed in Darwin as a burlesque artist and emcee, and was part of the 2026 Tracks ChoreoLab cohort. When she’s not at work, Alana loves a karaoke sing-a-long, sewing and other arts and crafts, and spending time in nature.
